UK car market makes a new sales record this March

Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) figures out that the UK car market is performing very well. In the past month (March 2015), almost half a million new cars were sold and registered in UK. This is the highest number of cars sold since 1999 in a single month. The figures have been released by the SMMT.

In March only the total number of cars sold were 492,774, the highest number of cars sold in a month in the last 15 years and a 6 percent rise compared to the same time last year. Fleet buyers continue to drive the growth with a rise of 44.5 percent.

Sales of the vehicles with alternative fuel technology including plug-in Hybrids, Hybrid Electric and fuel economic engines were also subjected to rise since 2014. In March only, 14,335 alternative fueled vehicles were sold. This is a 60 percent rise in sales compared to the same period in 2014.

The SMMT also said that the society has recorded continuous growth in new car sales in the past 37 months. Demand is still on the rise for more fuel efficient models which are equipped with more advanced technology.

Chief executive of the SMMT, Mike Hawes believes that the March 2015 is the most fabulous month of this century for new car registration and a welcoming boost for the UK’s thriving automotive sector.

It will be a great challenge for new government to maintain the momentum of sales and even strengthen the manufacturing capabilities with continued investment in Britain.
